  • Spotlight: Borders & Frontiers at ASOS

    borders

London based label Borders & Frontiers were pretty quick off the mark. Just as fashion bloggers became a world wide fascination, Borders commissioned the now famous ‘bloggers t-shirts’; where our favourite online writers designed limited edition t-shirts to signature their widely read websites.

So we have Queen Michelle’s cool Teddy Boy uncle, Fake Karl’s tongue in cheek ‘Demode’ number, and Style Bubble’s pretty diamond neck chains (two jewellery print fabrics in one day, must be a sign to purchase.) All of the t-shirts come in high quality organic cotton, and are now on sale at half price too! We’ve already made one spend today- would collecting the lot really be a step too far…?

What’s more, Borders & Frontiers have since extended the line to include shopper totes, all printed with great illustrations of Tavi et al made for popping down to Tesco with. We’d also recommend checking out the labels own blog, where interesting art and photography snapshots sit alongside a new tune or two. We’ve already had a bop along to Chase and Status and Bjork courtesy of the site, and it’s not even lunchtime yet. All hail the blogger revolution at Borders.

  • Selfridges live on LynkU

    selfridgesaug31

Coming back from a Bank Holiday weekend doesn’t have to be so tiresome if you have something to look forward to.  Like kids on Christmas we’ve been perusing the site, checking out, of course the New In selection, as well as the launch of Selfridges on LynkU.  What a tasty lunch we have in store for you today.

Selfridges went live with its online boutique only months ago, and now we have added it to our mix of daily browsing–fabulous news for all.  Blending the most luxurious designer labels with must-have fashion pieces, Selfridges has earned its spot as one of Britain’s premiere shopping experiences (and we’re not even talking about the window displays).  It’s one of those iconic stores that people queue to shop in-store favourites including Chanel and Louis Vuitton, and without a doubt, the food hall is scrumptious!  Gourmet treats aside, the clothes and accessories have whet our fashion appetite, and right now we’re lusting after Chloe’s Paraty bag, exclusive to the big S, which would work quite nicely with Kurt Geiger’s mid-length boots.  A silk scarf by Matthew Williamson adds a splash of colour to the mix, whilst a sterling silver python and leather wrap bracelet defies creation (exactly how is silver applied to the skin, we wonder?) but looks perfect for a night out.

  • Eyola launches e-boutique

    Eyola

Eyola boutique came to us by way of a little email birdie, and we decided it would be wrong to treasure this for ourselves, but better yet to share as a new e-boutique has just been launched (and there’s really nothing better than a new e-boutique). Designer Eyola (that’s it, friends, no other details than that) has opened her first online shop, which displays eight pieces from her current lot, most of which are one-offs or limited to a maximum run of eight. That’s it. There can be no more. After eight weeks (picking up on this numerical trends, we hope) the shop closes and re-opens for another two months selling a new octet of designs. This could go on for infinity—follow that. Despite the affinity for 10 minus two, we have to hand it to Eyola, the clothes represent the work of a clearly artistic talent, who has worked under Alexander McQueen and was named one of Vogue Italia’s up-and-coming designers in 2009.

Take a guess when Eyola officially set up shop? That’s right, since 2008 the designer has continued to create Octette collections that mix high octane drama and romance in a rich Victorian palette. Tarcotsira features jewel-tone separates tailored immaculately, cocktail frocks and a beaded bodice with a fairy feather skirt, while Acrifa juxtaposes opulent Grecian gowns against architectural cuts, satin cummerbunds and stiff ruffles. Need we say more? Take a look for yourself and shop Eyola’s eight-week display.

  • Sevens

    sevens

Californian label 7 for all Mankind appear to have no problem with blowing their own trumpet. A swift look at the website turns up statements calling themselves “the story of premium denim,” and a “true denim lifestyle brand”..

What magnificent PR spiel this all is, but we’re more interested in what the label has to back it all up. Fortunately, the grandiose blurb from the company rests on 10 years certified experience producing high quality denim in a variety of fashionable cuts and washes. In fact, Sevens (as the line is often called) usually top polls of the best denim brands on both sides of the pond. Ok we have to hand it them, these guys are really good at what they do.

Our current favourite models include the Roxanne, a skinny cropped jean, the Gwenevere mid-rise, and a fancy boot-leg with tummy flattering high waist finish- all available in whatever indigo wash you fancy.

And if you’re wondering what exactly is ‘premium denim’ (we had our doubts too), and why you should invest in it, cult website denimology.com have compiled a convincing argument involving a Victoria Secrets model. Worth a moments thought right?

  • Wednesday look we love

    lookwelove

Right so it’s time to admit it- the Olsen girls have got some pretty decent design talent in them. The Row, the twin’s label running since 2007, has already shown a knack for producing luxe pieces as timeless as they are consistently on the fashion pulse.

Maybe it’s the business brains of Mary-Kate and Ashley, but they’ve quickly found a niche market- the best in high end minimalist (there’s that word again) pieces. Sophisticated and a touch gothic, a leather vest summarises all that’s good with The Row right now.

We love how streamlined the shirt is (leather tops could easily add unnecessary bulk surely?) which keeps a tidy shape on top. Along with our other daily spot, knotted black wedges from Topshop, and some classic DVF beige shorts, we’ve found our cool look of the day. And we hope you approve too!

  • Spotlight: Complex Geometries

    complexg

Complex Geometries, a Canadian label, have quite the multi-disciplinary approach to fashion. Founder Clayton Evans studied architecture before making the switch to designing womenswear in 2005, setting up the label and taking all that he had learnt with him.

As you may have guessed from the name, Complex Geometries base their clothing ethos around elaborate cuts, drapes and shapes. Ah the laws of symmetry- where will the usefulness end…

Wisely sticking to monochrome, Evans lets the construction leave an impact with the wearer; clothes seamlessly fit into wardrobes as minimalist separates with enough about them to become pretty desirable clothes. Browns have stocked the label for years, and fans rest assured the line’s pared back structural staples are only ever a click away.

  • Spotlight: One Vintage

    onevintage

When Net-A-Porter turned their mind to vintage in 2009, you knew their selection was going to be first rate. And stockist One Vintage, founded by one half of Paul & Joe team Marcelle Symons, has continually maintained a standard of second hand dressing not usually found in the rummage bins of your local market stall.

Yes this is vintage for the purists, with no pillaging or restoration necessary- all is taken care of by passionate collector Symons, who appears to chose materials like a real pro. Delicate Victorian lace make up a stunning wedding dress complete with authentic high neck- they really DON’T make those like they used to!

Genuine Edwardian crochet appears elegantly reworked into a cute bohemian halter top; and by now it is obvious the treatment at One Vintage really is just that: one of a kind, perhaps even ‘The One’ (when you find it…)

We love the 1940s butterfly feature plunge top, as delicate and pretty as any fantasy would allow. A penchant for fine crystal, natty embellishment and exquisite detailing mark out One Vintage, and of course Net-A-Porter, from the usual retro crowd. It may be vintage darling, but it is bespoke.

  • AW lookbook: La Petite S*****

    lps

La Petite S*****, whose AW look book just landed on our desk this morning, are a great surprise on two counts. First, despite a less than debonair name (google if you must), La Petite S***** are actually connoisseurs of sophisticated yet fashion forward clothing. And despite hinting at French origins, the label was actually founded by UK designer Nicola Helgensen in 2001. Well what ‘dya know.

Over the years La Petite S***** have developed elegant day and evening wear in their trademark subdued palette, always with a directional twist in construction. Coming from a visual merchandising background, Helgensen knows what makes clothes look good- and these significant features appear in all collections, whether it’s a touch of ruching here or spot of pin tucking there. One things for sure, these clothes would last you a lifetime.

The Autumn collection, displayed in stark images to contrast with the depth of colour on offer, are a rich mix of burgundy, taupe, rust and of course, black items. Tie-dye silk jackets stand out, as well as asymmetric body con dresses complete with well placed drapes of fabric. It’s clear Helgensen knows exactly what she’s doing, so let is not interrupt.

  • Fifties throwback

    Fifties-style

Coggles.com, one of our favourites spots to pick up designer goodies online, has just introduced a new line to its impressive offering, taking a tip from one of autumn’s retro inspired trends. Priestley’s Vintage hails from York, and provides one-off pieces spanning the last century in style. Immediately attracting our attention were the fifties frocks and playful summer prints we started noticing on LynkU. This was an organic spot, as we like to call it, during one of those afternoons spent seeking out products for another story when we just suddenly stumbled on Priestley’s. What was this brand? Is someone designing this or is it truly vintage, we wondered.

The Coggles team has hand-picked their top choices from this renown independent boutique, selecting silhouettes that represent current trends in fashion and separates to mix in to today’s runway vocabulary with ease. There was no other autumn show more in tune with the 1950s than Louis Vuittion, where Marc Jacobs cinched waists, filled out skirts and exposed low-cut decolletes. However, Priestley’s does the designer one better with authentic garden party dresses straight from the decade that gave us the other Priestly and colour TV—to name a few. These longer hemlines, sweeping the calf and not the thigh, are a welcome development for the fashion set, and we say bring on the ladylike dressing.

  • KG peep-toe boots exclusive to My Wardrobe

    4waystowear-july

It’s Friday noon and time to find these ankle boots.  Fortunately the kind team at My-Wardrobe has updated us with the goods.  Kurt Geiger, the affordably priced footwear brand that has managed to bridge the divide between designer and high street styles, has introduced a pair of leopard print peep-toe boots under its KG line available exclusively to My Wardrobe.  We know, we know the mention of animal print makes us cringe a little thinking of Cougars (of the older woman- younger man formula, not the cat) dressed head to toe in spotted prints trying to turn heads…and then we remind ourselves that a little leopard goes a long way.  Hence KG’s slingbacks.

My Wardrobe is responsible for the 4 Ways to Wear It styleboards that basically consume our afternoons and inspire us endlessly, but let us add a fifth look to the lot.  Let’s go nude (interpret whatever way you choose), and throw together a pale ivory blouse, camel coloured pencil skirt, a beige shrug (always in case of inclement weather) and of course these little beauties…or, er booties.  Whatever way you choose to wear, shop the shoes on My-Wardrobe.
