Temperley London spring sale
Unfortunately, the five looks above are from Alice Temperley’s autumn/winter 2010 presentation in New York several weeks ago. The line was smart and sleek, and was predominantly painted in black and white with a brush of violet. The overall feel of the showing was styled city girl about town. Outfitted for whatever urgent meeting or glamorous gala beckons. Bravo, bravo.
Whilst we cannot get our hands on these beauties just yet, Temperley is selling off their samples for two days only at the 20th Century Theatre. Thursday and Friday are sure to be packed with fenzied shoppers side-stepping one another to see who can carry a few draped dresses or slouchy bags to the register first. The first day opens bright and early at 8 am and doesn’t close up shop until 7 pm for the work crowd.

Preen sample sale

This is extremely late notice (apologies, apologies), but this is a good one: Preen has been hosting a sample sale and today is the last day! Head over to 5 Portobello Green, 281 Portobello Road from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to shop the range of our very favourite minis this side of town.
Maybe it was the economical downturn or the winter chill affecting Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi in the design studio, because most of the collection is black, with touches of white. The duo’s autumn/winter collection is packed with body-con frocks with a mod twist. This all starts to work together when you look at the line as a whole. Graphic black-and-white cut-outs plastered against the models’ bodies transition into groovy pastels paired with neutrals. And it all starts to make sense. Pretty pink swirls together with lavender, pistachio and pale lemon that starts to look a lot more optimistic and ripe for spring.
Whether you prefer smart and sophisticated or fun and playful (or both!), Preen’s sample sale is sure to have a little something for everyone.

French Connection sample sale

This weekend hit up French Connection’s three-day sample sale, from Friday to Sunday at 39 Camden Street. French Connection is a luxe high street favourite, so it’s sure to be packed with more affordable holiday goodies. Not to worry if you can’t make the first day of the sale, new stock will be introduced daily. Whilst a typical FC coat will set you back anywhere from £110 to £350 (for the leathers), jackets at the sale will start from £40. Dresses and knits available from £20! These are amazing gift-giving–and a bit of receiving–prices. Entry costs a pound, which will be donated to the Leukemia Trust. Click here for more information and a map.

Stella McCartney sample sale

I know I said I would try to give a few days planning notice for sample sales, but I literally just found out about this one. So here are all of the important details: Stella McCartney is holding a sample sale Friday 16 October (that would be tomorrow–so you see, this is urgent!). It takes place at 12-13 Kingsley Street, near Oxford Circus, and it runs until 18:00. No, the above looks from spring 10 will not be included, but there is plenty to love about McCartney’s past collections. What we can look forward to are the sportier, more urban looks, as well as the sexy slip dresses and suits that make a Stella collection so in-demand. Enjoy!

Street Chic at fashion week

This post is several days in the making, as I met Sabina on Saturday in the midst of a trillion shows, and naturally lost her bsuiness card until today when I decided to start sorting through my LFW collection of paperwork. So here you go, this is street style at its best. Sure you have designer shows, but the attendees also come suited in their fashion week best– dressed in provocative, fun and inspiring clothes and getting snapped by nearly as many photogs as the models!
Sabina works as a stylist (wow, completely surprising right) and her leggings are ridiculous. Truly amazing, I did a double-take coming out of Somerset. To be fair, Saturday was a shiny, sunny, gorgeous, perfect day (you get the point) and my eyes were adjusting. On first glance, I thought these beauties were a variety of over-the-knee boots–an interesting texture regardless. However, when I turned around again, I realized Sabina’s heeled sandals were not attached to her brilliant leg-wear. She said that they had been causing quite a stir that morning, and a valuable lesson is gleaned: if you dress your best, you will get noticed.
