Fragrant fashions
Lunchtime discussion today was centred on scents. What olfactory delights please you most? Some prefer the aromatic flavour of jasmine, whist others like to feel as if they’re grazing in a field of wild flowers, and still others of us prefer more gender-neutral territory featuing whiffs of freshly cut grass or woody undertones. Whatever your ideal blend, we can all agree on the fact that when you find it, you just know. In fact, you might want to pass this post straight on to your partner in light of Valentine pressies– a little lesson at lunchtime for the shopping-impaired.
Whilst these are not necessarily the latest designer crop introduced to soothe our olfactory senses, we’ve selected a few of our favourites to suit your personal style. Do you prefer your clothes classic and minimal like Celine’s ss2010 (thank you Phoebe Philo)? Try Chanel’s Allure for a fresh floral smell that’s simple yet irresistible. If the sporty style of Ohne Titel or Alexander Wang is more your flavour, we suggest Burberry Weekend– subtle hints of vanilla make this fragrance cool and casual. For those who love all things silk, lace and lovely (also known on the runway as Valentino), our pick is Sarah Jessica Parker’s Endless, a luscious blend of plum and flowers. To suit a dark and sensual style, we recommend Karl Lagerfeld’s Narcisse, which dazzles with sharp oriental bouquets.
Whether you prefer a subtle scent or a fragrance in full bloom, shop LynkU to find the answer to all things olfactory.

Pucker up
We’re exploring the world of make up more with every season. This spring, Christian’s Dior’s hauntingly beautiful pastel-and-pop combination is dominating our thoughts for February…and we’re not just referring to the day Cupid flies into town either. There is something startling about the smokey pastel gazes of the models Galliano sent down the runway. Blending the soft candy-coloured palette of spring style with an icy sweep arcing up to the brow line, the make up complements the clothing flawlessly. Paired with a va va va voom pout and little else, this look screams “Kiss me!” We’re sure the perfectly coiffed blond hair and pale skin (it will keep you looking younger, longer!) don’t hurt, but we can see this style working whether you’re blond, brunette or auburn. With a powerful punch of red, keep it simple– just a splash of lilac and crystal blue will make your eyes irrestible.

Nail it
Sometimes it’s the finishing touches that make an outfit. And we’re not only referring to accessories: our beauty habits should enhance our overall look. Painting your nails is a subtle and very lady-like way to add some spark – it shows you haven’t let any details slip by.
The colour you choose should depend on your outfit – it can work as a complement to it or create an unexpected contrast. Let’s say you’re all dressed in a dark colour—apply a brush of acid-coloured paint on your nails to break the monotony. Or, if you’re going for a classic pin up look, say no more: an intense red is the perfect match.
We suggest you have a look at this season’s favourite catwalk shows for some inspiration. Did you fall for Christopher Kane’s Lolita-inspired collection? Then get out your pastel colours: soft pinks and nudes will suit this spring’s delicate feminine mood. We like Leighton Denny’s Diamond Rose.
For those of you who wish to emulate Film Noir stars from the 1940’s as seen at Dior, scarlet red is your alibi–try Essie’s A List. For maximum effect, match both lips and nails – it’s not a look for the faint-hearted, though.
If you’re after a darker, more decadent look, tones such as chocolate, purple and black would suit Lanvin’s luxurious evening gowns. The name of Essie’s Midnight Cami tone says it all. When dealing with darker colours, remember to keep your nails relatively short – it’s less Gothic and more practical.
Another tip? Don’t be afraid to experiment. After all, it’s not just clothes you can have fun with.

Fragrant fantasies
There is a constant smell of loveliness spread around the office of late, and surprisingly this is not due to the influx of holiday treats and goodies. No, we’re attributing this olfactory delight to the presence of Diptyque. We’re usually all about the clothes, shoes, bags and as many outfit add-ons as you can count, but after a group discussion we felt it would be remiss to hold out on this fragrant secret. Founded by three friends in Paris who shared a love travel, specifically to the Mediterranean and the Far East, Diptyque’s aromatic candles have garnered a worthy cult following. A thoughtfully constructed tripod of scents complements and enhances the indulgent fragrances. Diptyques’ sophisticated range of candles, fragrances and room sprays make the perfect holiday gift.
Tubereuse is a particular favourite for it’s sensual dream-like scent. Interestingly this Mexican flower is the most expensive floral perfume ingredient across the globe. Baies is one of the most popular Diptyque fragrances, which combines blackcurrant with rose garden florals. Mmm smells like summer. And do we see Mimosa there? These tiny yellow buds trace back to the French Riviera. Bring on the sun! Room sprays are £32 each.
A fun fruity fragrance, this uni-sex spray combines notes of fig and White Cedar, reminiscent of a summer spent along the lazy beaches of Greece. £42
