Back to Basics
Written by Vanessa Zaree

As much as we love seeing the trends that the fashion world comes up with every season, it’s reassuring to know that there are items we can always count on to deliver. Designers are aware of this and never fail to provide us with clever updates of the classics, whether it’s white shirts or LBDs.
So what is it that makes a wardrobe staple absolutely invaluable? The ability to adapt to fluctuating trends without losing its identity is essential, and the fact that you can wear it with pretty much anything is a requirement.
Firstly, there’s the blazer. It’s had many incarnations over the years but its essence remains the same: the perfect balance between smart and casual, feminine and masculine, eclectic and classic.
The white shirt is also one of our favourites. Again, we’ve seen many variations–pussy-bow, boyfriend, and even cropped – whatever the style, it’s earned an honorary place in our repertoire.
Now, jeans. We’d be lost without them, since they work for almost every occasion. Once you find a style that suits you, stick to it. We doubt you’ll ever get of sick of it.
We can’t think of evening wear without the Little Black Dress. We attribute this to the slimming-quality of the colour, as well as its versatility. It’s also a breeze to throw on a frock and head out the door. In any case, LBDs are a constant must have.
What about pencil skirts? Wearing a pencil skirt and some killer heels is the quickest way to look super chic – and naturally, it works day and night.
It’s fun to see what’s new – but let’s not forget the pieces that are faithful to us (and our closets).
