Wedge world
Written by Dana Karlson
It’s no secret that ankle boots are key for autumn, particularly of the studded or peep-toe variety. Though lately we’ve detected the presence of a solid wedge heel taking shape. Could it be that designers are taking a cue from what women shoppers really want: shoes that a) make our legs look incredible (and honestly we’d be hard-pressed to find a flat that can fulfill this) and b) are practical to walk in. Voila! The wedge ankle boot solves this dilemma brilliantly, in fact we’re surprised we weren’t clamoring for this sooner!
Miraculously, wedge boots seem to inject a dose of runway cool to whatever you pair them with. A thigh-skimming mini, ruched leggings/loose vest/boyfriend blazer combo, or wrapped body-con dress instantly feel fresh with statement-making footwear.
Fortunately most if not all designers/brands/vintage shops have taken notice of this trend, and the great happiness (read: massive spending spree) it elicits in shoppers, so there are booties at every price point.
We might all be wearing this amazing pair of Surface to Air wedge boots come tomorrow–or whoever gets them first, wins. At £215, all is fair in love and footwear. These peep-toe/peep-foot strappy buckled shoes dominate the rock chic trend for autumn. Shop here.
Emma Cook’s fringed wedges for Topshop combine a great many likes (animal prints), loves (suede fringe) and must-haves (wedge ankles, friends). Snatch them up fast, these booties are £130, and we all know how long designer-for-Topshop ranges last in-store. Shop now.Category: A/W 09 Runway | Tags:
